1 Thessalonians 4:14-16. This raises some good questions about the difference between the believers returning with Jesus and those raised from the dead.

What is the distinguishing criteria that determines the asleep believers coming with him and those raised to meet? Or is it that all are with him and it is the dead bodies only that rise? Perhaps the translation is not so clear.

I Thes 4:16-17 And the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain...shall we ever be with the Lord.
I believe I will see my loved ones when I get to Heaven. They who walked the right path will be there and I will see them again and rejoice.

I Thes 5 The whole chapter is telling us how to live. And that we should be ready for the end because we don't know when it's coming. It could be today, or it could be 20 years from now. I just know that I must be ready. And that does take a daily walk with the Lord, which I feel I sometimes forget. You need to be constantly seeking the Lord so that you are ready for Him to use and that you will stay in tune with Him.

Can anyone explain the difference between the believers returning with the Lord and those asleep and raised from the dead? This doesn't seem to line up with each other.

Scott. Believers returning to the Lord is what happens to Christians who are still alive at the second comming. They are raptured into the air to meet the Lord. Those who are not alive but already dead physcially are what the Bible calls "sleeping" and are resurected to meet the Lord.

I don't think I asked the question clearly. I'll have to research a few translations and ask again. Basically the Bible talks about some believers returning "with" the Lord, others raised from the dead (asleep) and those alive rising to meet him, all at "one" event. It's the contrdiction between those asleep and coming with him I need to understand better so I will do some more study first. Thanks

Three of the four translations I read say he will "bring with him" those who are asleep.

Yet these same translations also say the dead in Christ (asleep) will rise to meet him. Anyone see the contradiction?
